LECTURER:
Pieter Keune studied chemistry and philosophy of science at the University of Amsterdam. In 1971 he was appointed to the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, as a lecturer in materials science. Between 1985 and 1992 he ran a laboratory at the Jan van Eyck Academy, Maastricht, studying the use of materials in modern art. Since 1992 he has been attached to the Amsterdamse Hoogeschool voor de Kunsten in the museum studies department (Reinwart Academie) and he lectures the Masters’ students at the University of Amsterdam on Restoration. In 1991 he founded a journal on material technology for artists ad restorers, KM, of which he is still editor-in-chief.
Keune has published many papers on the use of materials in and the conservation of modern art. He has contributed to the Association of Netherlands Municipalities’ publication “Beelden Buiten, Beheer en Behoud” and the international, “Modern Art, Who Cares”
