For 2 liters paint you will need:
hide glue, pearl glue or gelatine, 70 g
distilled water, 1 l
whisk or electric mixer
pan, stainless steel or enamel, minimum 3 l capacity
sodium benzoate conservative (if needed), 2 teaspoons
water and detergent for cleaning equipment and brushes
Allow 70 g glue to swell 24 hours in 1 liter distilled water. Warm the solution in the pan to 60–70 deg C at most. Add pigment and stir with whisk or electric mixer. The glue sets as it cools. Keep warm on a steam bath (Bain Marie). If necessary, conserve with 2 teaspoons sodium benzoate. After it is cool, keep the paint in the refrigerator. To use the paint again, warm gently and add water if necessary.
Each pigment needs its own quantity of glue for the best result. Make a test batch first. Use at most ½ liter dry pigment per liter water.
