Shellac varnish and shellac fixative

You will need:
pigment
shellac
alcohol 96%
jar with lid
alcohol to clean equipment and brushes

Use volume measures. Put 1 part shellac to 3 parts alcohol in the pot. Depending on the amount taken, the shellac will dissolve in the alcohol in about 2 weeks.
It is then ready for use.

Add 1 to 2 parts pigment.

This product can be used as a varnish and for French polishing.

Hardwoods take French polish best. Pores in the wood can be filled with moistened shellac powder, marble dust or powdered pumice stone. Shellac is an excretion of the lac beetle, mainly from India and Thailand. It is on sale in flake and powdered form. The powder is best for filling pores and French polish.
Button lac is also a type of shellac. It was once used to make gramophone records
