History and application:
Ancient
Originally made from carbonised mummies. Now derived from coal tar a relative of crude oil. Deep brown-black colour.
Can be used in oil paint and varnish.
Does not dry quickly in oil paint. Light fast and very moisture resistant. Moderate coverage.
