Ancient
Semiprecious stone from Afghanistan. The composition of the very expensive, extremely rare Lapis lazuli, the natural ultramarine, or lazuli blue, was unraveled in 1824. Even in ancient times this natural lazuli mineral was the most beautiful, longest lasting and most expensive pigment known. Has a beautiful sheen when used to paint on glass. Can be used best in tempera or oil paint.
