Sealing wax
You will need:pigment
shellac, 50 g
seal
saucepan
hot water for cleaning equipment
candle in candlestick
wooden spoon
2 pieces cardboard, folded into troughs 15 cm long x 2 cm high
Fold the cardboard lengthwise to make troughs and seal well with tape.
These are moulds you will use to cast the wax.
Melt 50 g shellac in the saucepan. Do not allow to boil. Add 50 g pigment. Stir well.
Allow to cool slightly until it becomes tacky.
Place the moulds on a piece of cardboard in case of leakage.
Pour the mixture into the troughs and allow to harden for a few hours.
Remove the cardboard. You now have a stick of sealing wax.
Melt the stick in a teaspoon over a candle flame. A well-filled teaspoon is sufficient.
Rub out on your document to give an area larger than the seal.
Press the seal into the wax for about 10 seconds.
Tips:
The shellac can be replaced by beeswax. This gives a softer seal.
The best pigments are Spanish Red or Oxide Red.
