Egg Tempera

You will need:
pigment
egg yolk
boiled water, 1 eggcup full
spikenard oil, 4 drops
glass plate, 30 x 30 cm
VCA cleanser and kitchen towels to clean equipment and brushes
glass paint rubber
2 palette knives
2 pipettes / medicine droppers
whisk
tea strainer
teaspoon

Whisk the egg yolk with the water.
Strain the mixture and conserve with 4 drops spikenard oil.
The mixture is now ready for use.
Place a teaspoon of pigment on the glass plate and moisten with water.
Mix the pigment and water into a thick paste using the palette knife.
Add the egg/water mixture to the pigment paste using the pipette.
Mix with the palette knife.
Rub the paste with the pain rubber using a powerful circular motion over the whole plate.
Gather the paint with the palette knife and add a little more water/egg mixture.
Repeat until a smooth paint is obtained.
The paint is now ready for use. If needed, it can be thinned with boiled water.

Useful tips:

Lay on the paint in layers, letting them dry in the sun.
No conservative is needed if you use the paint immediately.
Keep conserved paint in a well sealed jar in the refrigerator.
Always use fresh eggs.
