Wax paint (Encaustic)

You will need:

pigment
beeswax
carnauba wax
gum turpentine to clean equipment and crushes
Portuguese gum turpentine
dammar varnish
saucepan, small

Melt 12 parts beeswax with 3 parts carnauba wax on a steam bath (Bain Marie).
DO NOT use an open flame.
Add 1 part dammar varnish solution and 1 part Portuguese gum turpentine.
Allow to cool. Keep the mixture in the saucepan.
To use, re-heat the mixture and add pigment. Stir well.
Use hot.
This paint sets very quickly, so heat the surface to be painted,
either with a hair dryer (low setting) or preferably an infrared lamp.
